Who wouldn’t want to be friends with a farmer?
I certainly wouldn’t mind getting fresh local ingredients in my meals every day! Well, when dining at Friend of a Farmer that’s exactly what you will get. It is clear NYC feels the same, as the line extends out the door on the weekends.
I have a love/obsession for brunch and have wanted to eat at Friend of a Farmer for a while now, but with no reservations and talk of a long wait, it was on the backburner. However, when my boyfriend said he would wait online as I finished up a spin class over at Peloton, I was one happy girl.
We were seated upstairs in the restaurant, which looks like it could have been someone’s grandma’s house back in the day with its floral wallpaper and dated décor. Shortly after we ordered our food, the cornbread with baked apples arrived at our table. First off, I love cornbread. Second, I love free cornbread. Third, I love free delicious cornbread. Ok I think I made my point. Anyway, it was a little dry but perfectly paired with the baked apples that almost acted like a jam. I have never had this flavor combination but it definitely worked.
We ordered the eggs benedict and Boomer special. The eggs benedict hit the spot. Starting with the base of a toasty English muffin and then the salty ham topped with the perfectly cooked runny egg. The boomer special is great because it includes a meat, eggs, potatoes, and pancakes. The star of that plate was those pumpkin pancakes! Wow! They were fluffy, light, and sweet with the perfect crisp on the outside. Then I poured that maple butter on top of them and couldn’t believe it, but they were even more delicious! My boyfriend (who calls himself a pancakes connoisseur) agreed that they were some of the best we have had in a while.
Friend of a Farmer has me hooked. I suggest getting there early on the weekends or going during the week when you can make a reservation. Although, it was totally worth braving the line (Or getting someone else to). Enjoy!
