SXSW’s Future of Food meets March 18-21 to discuss the impacts of climate change , distribution, and fair labor have on The Future of Food @ SXSW. We’re organizing as a virtual SXSW event, presented by The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation, with Little Herds, an Austin-based non-profit focused on the role of insect-based foods in sustainable food systems, and in partnership with marketplaces like Farm2Me, Vinder, and the Green Cart to shop products from presenters of the festival.
The goal of the Future of Food event at SXSW is to fight climate change, hunger and food waste, and to discuss how the future of food will innovate to address these issues in the next decade.
Disaster Relief and the impacts of climate change are also on the table – how to organize small batch food networks to address climate change, regenerative food systems, immediate food relief in times of crisis like the Texas Winter Storm, and Decentralize Wholesale networks role in the distribution chain.
Robert Nathan Allen (RNA), Founder of Little Herds, tells Farm2Me that the goal is to bring awareness to innovations in the industry and to bring the conversation back to the local food systems in Austin and around the country.
This year’s speakers will include Dani Nierenberg, Temple Grandin, Dana Gunders of ReFED, Don Bugito, Whole Foods, and more. Panels will include plant alternative, upcycling food waste, alternative proteins, food security, wholesale distribution, and mission driven investments.
Being online, the festival will connect more audiences – and show the advantages of using technology to create location based filters, decentralized wholesale marketplaces, compost networks, and food rescue.
In addition to viewing the festival – attendees will also be able to engage with Future of Food by purchasing SXSW Future of Food boxes on Farm2Me, Vinder, and the Green Cart .
A percentage of sales will go to Austin non profit initiatives through Little Herds, Good Work Austin, Austin Area Urban League, El Buen Samaritano, and others.
Enjoy, let us know what you think!
See you at SXSW.
