Who we are
Katie grew up surrounded by the joys of food. She plucked caterpillars off the fragrant tomato plants in the garden. She snuck eggs from underneath hens. And she stuffed venison sausage links in the smoke room built by my great grandfather. She woke up to the smell of fresh baked bread (and she slathered it in copious amounts of butter). She licked raw cookie dough off every spatula, and she always helped make her own birthday cake. She has her mother to thank for this.
In 2013, her mom passed away overnight. Her mom had spent her whole life making delicious food for her and her family, but had restricted herself to dieting and had never figured out what health meant for her. Katie was determined not to make the same mistake. She dug into health and found a diet that worked for her…for a while. The more and more she researched, the more confused she got.
Is soy good or bad? Should she eat carbs or not? Is red meat a good source or iron or bad for her heart? She got to the point where she wasn’t even sure if a banana was okay for me to eat. She was so angry for myself and for my mother. After trying it all, She decided enough was enough. She was going to start eating everything again, especially foods that brought me joy.
And in 2018 Jake & Jubi’s Snack Co. was born. She left her safe but unsatisfying job and started selling her snacks at the farmers market. They only had to meet two requirements: they had to bring you joy, and they had to have simple ingredients that you could understand. And that’s what Jake & Jubi’s is today.
