B Corp

When we started Farm2Me, we founded it with a mission: to grow and sustain local food systems. More broadly, we had a dedication to general environmental and social good, helping support local economy and the globe. With those values in mind, we’re thrilled to share our story as a Benefit Corporation (B Corp). Join us! *Farm2Me has been a B Corporation since 2011.

B Corporations are a new type of corporation that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental issues. Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations commit to considering the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders, but also on their stakeholders like employees, community and the environment.

B Lab, the non-profit behind B Corps, was founded in 2006 and created the B Impact Assessment, a rigorous evaluation that holds companies to higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance. The comprehensive B Corp Assessment provides a framework for companies to evaluate their successes in addressing these issues. It also keeps Farm2Me focused and striving to do more: it highlights areas for improvement as you continue to grow and put down roots in more cities across the country.

At the core of Farm2Me’s local food network of food makers and farms is a community of impactful businesses. By becoming a B Corp, you’re dedicating yourselves to upholding the principles that first ignited you to start your business: people matter, our land is priceless, and everyday choices make a difference. Working with B Lab is a natural fit for what we do, and we think it will be a great partner for you as well.

Jonathan Askin, Associate Professor of Law at Brooklyn Law School and his students at the Brooklyn Law Institute of Intellectual Property (BLIP) Clinic took on Farm2Me’s Benefit Corp Incorporation in 2012, as part of their 2nd Summer Internship. Jonathan and BLIP were ecstatic to offer 5 of their law students to be led by student Christine Min, Class of 2015, to take charge. We can’t thank Brooklyn Law School, Jonathan, and Christine enough!

With this certification, you’ll be joining over 1,200 Certified B Corporations around the world that are committed to using business for the benefit of society, not just shareholders. Included in that group are some of our very own producers: Alter Eco; Love + Hummus; Traditional Medicinals; Vermont Creamery; and Beanfield — all of whom make us even prouder to call ourselves a B Corp.
