Who We Are
Where the redwoods meet the sea in Northern California’s Humboldt and Del Norte Counties, we – Blake and Stephanie Alexandre – along with our five children – work together as a family.
Our primary focus is on health – and starts with the soil. This is where we cultivate a complex nutrient cycle that takes root in our year-round green grasses, and comes full circle on your table in the form of delicious, nutrient-dense organic milk and eggs.
Our Dairy
Our dairy cows and our hens enjoy true outdoor living as they graze open pastures alongside each other, a way of farming that the Cornucopia Institute describes as, “Exemplary – beyond organic.” The depth of our commitment: to family tradition, to our regenerative organic farming, and to providing consistent quality from our single-origin farm, is matched only by the depth of taste in our products.
We started dairying in 1988 in southern California where Stephanie grew up, but Blake knew he wanted to get back to his beloved pastures in northern California. When the opportunity arose in 1992 to buy an existing operation in Del Norte County, just two hours north of the original Alexandre home farm in Ferndale, we seized it.
We converted our dairy to organics in the late 90’s; taking our love of farming back to its hundred-year-old roots. As 5th generation grass farmers on our grazing dairy in Humboldt County, we were not new to grazing cows, and we were happy to be bringing back the organic production practices of our grandparents.
Today, we operate four grass-based organic dairies with crossbred A2/A2 dairy cows on irrigated pastures. We also grow a majority of our own hay on organic cropland in Modoc County.
With five kids growing up across the street from the dairy — learning to drive tractors at age six – with acres of pastures for their playground, all of the kids grew up involved in day-to-day activities on the farm. Each has a different, bright passion for agriculture. With Ag degrees from Cal Poly, our kids (and their spouses) now run the farm alongside us – and are creating our 6th generation of Alexandre Family farmers!
