WNYC | Sandy | Farm2Me Red Jacket bottle in Opening Scene

Video Produced  by WNYC Radio – Red Jacket Orchards bottle floating in opening scene, donated by RJO via Farm2me Local Food Makers + Farms Network.

The Story

From Oct 29 – Jan 29, Farm2Me’s network of 120 NYC local and organic food makers  donated raw juice, prepared food, and raw ingredients to 35 disaster relief sites in NYC and NJ (including The Rockaways, Staten Island, Manhattan, and Red Hook).  Over 300,000 organic and seasonal meals were handed out over the 4 months of relief.  You can see a Red Jacket Orchard bottle floating in the opening scenes of this WNYC documentary on the Rockaways’ Hurricane Sandy Relief.  This bottle came exclusively from Farm2Me, through our weekly pickups of Red Jacket bottles.  Over 20,000 bottles of raw juice came from Red Jacket Orchards during the course of relief efforts.  These ingredients and products were some of the only raw products these survivors had in the days and weeks after the storm.  Undoubtedly, you can see how important these products were – both psychologically and physically to the survivors.  You can see the recycled plastic bottle was one of the only clean receptacles the family had after 6-10 feet of water destroyed their entire kitchen and supplies.  It almost represents a sense of normalcy.
