6 Ways: Plastic Free

When it comes to going plastic-free, we all know a few easy ways to do so, like using reusable shopping bags and carrying metal water bottles. But here are some ways to go plastic-free that you may have never thought of before.

Bring your own containers for leftovers

Going out to eat should be a fun experience, but having to bring home your extra food in a single-use plastic container is not fun. By bringing your own container for your leftovers, you don’t have to use the single-use plastics one that the restaurant gives you.

Cones over cups
Since summer is here, you may want a little ice cream. Instead of getting a cup of it in a plastic bowl, order it in a cone instead. There is no plastic involved, plus you get an extra treat with your ice cream.

Shop from the bulk bins and bring your own jars

The bulk bins at your local grocery store are fantastic. You can get the exact amount of what you need, and it’s often cheaper than getting it prepackaged from the shelf. To make this experience even better, bring your own container to be filled with your items to ensure this transaction is 100% plastic-free.

Clean your home with baking soda, vinegar and, water

You can clean your entire home with a combination of one or more of the products I have listed above. You can reuse the bottle of your cleaning product once it runs out. It is important to remember you don’t have to buy new containers; just reuse the plastic items you already have. Plus, it saves you money!

Coconut oil is here to save the day
Coconut oil can be used for so many different things. You can use it while cooking, you can use it to condition your hair, it helps prevent ingrown hairs while shaving, and you can use it as a body lotion. Plus, it often comes in glass packaging that can be recycled.

Buy second hand when you can

Buying this second-hand not only can help save you money, but it can also help prevent that item from ending up in a landfill. Plus, the coolest things can be found at the thrift store.

Buy second hand when you can

Don’t just recycle or throw away your old plastics if you’re going Zero Waste.  Reuse your existing plastics until they’re seen their last day.  Many people make the mistake of throwing away things when going Zero Waste – when instead we should be using them until they’re beyond worn from wear and tear.
